Professor Ezekiel Olusola Ayoola, a former head of the Department of Mathematics, University of Ibadan, Oyo State, has been appointed as the next Pastor Adeboye Professor of Mathematics at the University of Ibadan, Ibadan.

The development followed an endowment chair instituted by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in four University Departments of Mathematics. The endowment started in the year 2010 at the University of Ibadan during the tenure of Professor Ayoola as Head of the Mathematics Department.

The Redeemed Church, however, used the chair to honor Pastor Adeboye, who himself is a mathematician and has served many years as a Researcher and lecturer in Applied Mathematics before he became a full-time Pastor.

The universities where the RCCG endowed the professorial chair include the University of Ibadan (UI), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and University of Nigeria (UNN).

NewsBreakNG learned that, in the University of Ibadan, distinguished professors of Mathematics are named Adeboye Professor of Mathematics at the end of the tenure of an incumbent.

Also, part of the policy is to identify a mathematics field where the incumbent specialises as a primary focus during the tenure of the incumbent without any prejudice to the development of other mathematics research areas during the tenure.

Speaking to NewsBreakNG Correspondent on his appointment, Professor Ayoola expressed happiness, saying that he looks forward to putting in his best arising from his experience as a Full Professor of Mathematics for many years.

He said: “I am happy to be so appointed. And I am looking forward to putting in my best arising from my experience as a full Professor of Mathematics for many years. This development is seen as an opportunity to make the subject of mathematics more attractive and practical.”
